How do I improve the odds of the sender receiving messages they send?
In a typical Discussion Group message, the email address in the From Line is the person who sent the message. Our servers receive your subscriber's new message, then forward it to all list members including the sender. When this happens, some ISPs overreact. They assume the email is spam and delete it.*
The option described below will display your list address in the From Line, along with your sender's email address. The computers just see the list address in the From Line, thus bypassing their spam rules and delivering to the Inbox.
*NOTE: A similar delivery issue occurs when the email author's server has DMARC turned on. An explanation of the issue and how we resolve it is summarized here.
How It Works
Option 1 - Change From Header for message sender/same domain name.
This option changes the email From Header for the message sender as well as all other recipients at the same domain name. Most other subscribers will see the sender's email address, like a typical mailing list.
For example, a mailing list has these subscribers:
joe@abc.com
sally@abc.com
sue@def.com
Joe sends a message to the mailing list. Joe & Sally will see the Mailing List Address in the From Header, while Sue (& other subscribers) will see Joe's name in the From Header.
In addition, we change the From Header for any other domain hosted by the same ISP.
For example, a mailing list has these subscribers:
joe@abc.com
sally@abc.com
sue@def.com
fred@xyz.com
Both abc.com and xyz.com are hosted by the same ISP (IE Google, Outlook, etc.)
Joe sends a message to the mailing list. Joe, Sally and Fred will see the Mailing List Address in the From Header, while Sue (& other subscribers) will see Joe's name in the From Header.
Instructions to change this setting are shown below.
Option 2 - Applies to all emails to all subscribers.
This option uses the Mailing List Address in the From Header for all subscribers, not just those from the same domain (as in Option 1). See the post below for step-by-step instructions:
See How can I improve the odds of getting all the email delivered into the inboxes of my subscribers?
Something to consider before making this change:
While setting the From Header as the Mailing List address can be helpful, it can also make it difficult to reply just to the individual who sent the message. To control how replies are handled, please see this post.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Use the Web Interface to Change Settings
Log into your mail-list account at https://database.mail-list.com.
- Click Customize Your List.
- Click Miscellaneous Settings.
- Click Sender Receives List Address in From Header.
- Click From Address Is List Address.
- Click Save.

NOTE:
For this option to work properly, the following menu options must be set this way:
Have Replies Go Back to List by Default = Reply to Individual Who Sent Message
Have List Address in the From Header = From Address Is Individual Who Sent Message
What Your Subscriber Sees
Computers / software only recognize the address in the angle brackets, which is the List Address. <youremailgroup@mail-list.com>
Example of Sender's Message

Most other Subscribers will see the Sender's email address in the From Header.
