How do I forward listserv email to mail-list.com (Note - this method is no longer supported)

A long time ago, it was easy to forward email around the Internet, but anti-spam technologies have made this method unreliable.

Mail-List.com no longer offers any support for delivery problems when you use this method.

You will want to use the DNS method for using your own domain name.

The following diagram presents an overview of the first method - preferred by most of our clients.

In order for mail-list.com to provide mailing list services on our machine, while using your Internet domain name, you will need to forward the appropriate mail to our machine.

That is so when somebody emails to YourListName-switch@yourdomain.com

it will end up at mail-list.com for processing (where yourdomain is the name of your domain).

When we email your message(s) to your subscribers, we will always put your domain name in the headers of all out-going email.

There are several addresses that are used for your mailing list (Replace YourListName with the name of your list):

   YourListName

   YourListName-on

   YourListName-off

   YourListName-change

   YourListName-switch

   YourListName-admin

   YourListName-request

   YourListName-list-owner

   YourListName-help

   YourListName-vacation

   YourListName-control

and for the  corresponding digest

   YourListName-d

   YourListName-d-on

   YourListName-d-off

   YourListName-d-change

   YourListName-d-switch

   YourListName-d-admin

   YourListName-d-request

   YourListName-d-list-owner

   YourListName-d-help

   YourListName-d-vacation

and

   listmaster

You will need to forward these messages in their entirety, without any changes, to the same address at cirrus.mail-list.com.

The From: header must remain the same.

This mail forwarding should be done with your regular SMTP mail transfer agent (MTA), such as Sendmail, Exim, or Qmail.

If you use Sendmail, your alias file will looks like this

If you are using a web hosting company, you will need to have them make these changes to their system.  In many cases, you can accomplish this task yourself, via a control panel that they provide.

It is critical for you to accomplish this task before using your mailing list.
